Ways we bless the community.  We want to lift up and celebrate all the ways members of this family of faith are at work in the community, and thanks to all of you who responded to the call to share about your community service.  Make a point of looking at the bulletin board in front of the stage in the Fellowship Hall.  A tremendous amount of work for the Kingdom is being done!

Hello Ladies!  It is time for Circles to meet again.  The Evening Circle will begin this Tuesday, September 7 at 7:00 here at the church.  Jane Hughson (396-8107) is Circle Leader.  Morning and Afternoon Circles will meet on Monday, September 13.  Morning Circle meets at Judy Renick's home at 9:30 a.m. (623 Willow Creek Circle, 396.8093) and Afternoon Circle meets at Ruth Jennings' home (103 Chula Vista, 392.3541). We will begin our exciting study of the Book of Revelation.

The Presbyterian Women's Book Group will kick-off its new year on Thursday, September 9, at 6:30 pm, at the home of Terri Clamons, 713 Mountain Drive (913.909.6221).  The book for September is Home Safe by Elizabeth Berg.  The Book Group is a gathering of interesting and fun women who enjoy reading, discussing and sharing, and relating their reading to their lives and friendships.  Even when the book read is not a "favorite," it never fails to stimulate spirited opinions and discussion.  All women in the church are invited to join the group.

Hospice Camps.  Camp Courageous Youth is for kids ages 7 - 17 who have experienced the death of a loved one. Camp Courageous Parents is open to parents who have experienced the death of a loved one whether it be a child, parent, or spouse.  Both camps offer a healing environment to explore, express and cope with the emotions surrounding the death of a loved one with the support of grief counselors and other children, teens, or adults who have had similar experiences. Activities include playing, connecting, reflecting, memorializing, and peer support groups. Camp Courageous is also an opportunity to learn about the grieving process. Participants gain healthy coping strategies through sharing with others who have lost a loved one.  For more information contact Hope Hospice at 830-625-7500. Registration forms are available through the church office and on the web at www.hopehospice.net. The deadline to register for both camps is September 24.

Update on our pipe organ.  At its monthly stated meeting August 9, the Session approved the funds necessary to undertake a fairly extensive renovation to the pipe organ.  The renovation will address a number of maintenance issues that have been accumulating for some time; once the renovation is complete, the sound of the organ will not only be greatly improved, but the organ itself will be restored to tip-top condition.  Work is scheduled to begin around the 10th of October and will take about two weeks.

The Men's Breakfast Group will begin meeting again on September 13th @ 7:00 a.m.  All men are invited and encouraged to join the group for breakfast in the Fellowship Hall, the McCaskill's will be cooking.  Going forward, the group will be meeting on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 a.m.

Austin Presbyterian Pilgrimage (formerly Presbyterian Cursillo) is a three-day weekend spiritual renewal event designed to foster and support an individual's long term commitment to living the Christian life. Led by lay members and clergy of the Presbyterian Church, its purpose is to inspire, challenge and equip church members for Christian action in their homes, churches and communities. In a thought-provoking, relaxing and fun-filled environment, participants enjoy fellowship with other Christians and leave with a desire to serve productively and live boldly for Christ.  The next Pilgrimage is September 23-26 at Camp Buckner in Marble Falls-you can register to attend now. For more information, speak with Pastor David or visit http://austinpilgrimage.org/default.aspx?section=home.

Family Link is looking for mentors for children in foster care.  As a mentor you have the opportunity to be a role model for a child by spending time doing fun activities, helping with homework, teaching life skills and being a positive person in their life.  Contact Traci Vanderbush at 512.233.6464 for more information.

The Presbyterian Parent Cooperative Preschool is now enrolling 3 to 5 year olds for the school year 2010-2011.  If you are interested in learning more about our Cooperative Preschool please, contact Pat Janke (Director) at 353.8325.

A word about parking...  In addition to parking in the spaces in front of the church and in the lot next to the church office, you may also park behind the sanctuary in the area adjacent to the playground, against the chain link fence in the Palmer's parking lot, and in the office building parking lot adjacent to Palmer's (the lot beyond the green wrought iron fence, accessible from North St.).

A reminder that there is coffee and tea for sale in the Fellowship Hall from the Presbyterian Coffee Project.  Through the project, farmers earn a fair price for their coffee, have access to affordable credit, and invest in their communities.  The cost of the coffee is $6.00 and the tea is $4.00.  There is an envelope at the coffee stand for your money.

You Are Invited to a Very Special Sunday...October 3, 2010

October 3 is World Communion Sunday, the day when Christians around the world celebrate their unity as members of the body of Christ.  It is also the day we receive the Peacemaking Offering which goes to support the peacemaking ministries of this congregation and the PCUSA.  And it is also the day when, traditionally, we have a simple bread & soup luncheon to remind ourselves that for many of our brothers and sisters in the body of Christ, such a meal would be a feast.  But this year will be particularly special because, during the luncheon, we will have the formal unveiling of the portrait of Mary Bonner, commissioned by the Session and painted by local artist Benjamin McVey, that will hang in the narthex.  Joining us in worship will be Ruben Armendariz, Mission Presbytery Staff Consultant for Church Development.
