Ways we bless the community. We want to lift up and celebrate all the ways members of this family of faith are at work in the community, and thanks to all of you who responded to the call to share about your community service. Make a point of looking at the bulletin board in front of the stage in the Fellowship Hall. A tremendous amount of work for the Kingdom is being done!

Hospice Camps. Camp Courageous Youth is for kids ages 7 - 17 who have experienced the death of a loved one. Camp Courageous Parents is open to parents who have experienced the death of a loved one whether it be a child, parent, or spouse. Both camps offer a healing environment to explore, express and cope with the emotions surrounding the death of a loved one with the support of grief counselors and other children, teens, or adults who have had similar experiences. Activities include playing, connecting, reflecting, memorializing, and peer support groups. Camp Courageous is also an opportunity to learn about the grieving process. Participants gain healthy coping strategies through sharing with others who have lost a loved one. For more information contact Hope Hospice at 830-625-7500. Registration forms are available through the church office and on the web at www.hopehospice.net. The deadline to register for both camps is September 24.
Update on our pipe organ. At its monthly stated meeting August 9, the Session approved the funds necessary to undertake a fairly extensive renovation to the pipe organ. The renovation will address a number of maintenance issues that have been accumulating for some time; once the renovation is complete, the sound of the organ will not only be greatly improved, but the organ itself will be restored to tip-top condition. Work is scheduled to begin around the 10th of October and will take about two weeks.

A word about parking... In addition to parking in the spaces in front of the church and in the lot next to the church office, you may also park behind the sanctuary in the area adjacent to the playground, against the chain link fence in the Palmer's parking lot, and in the office building parking lot adjacent to Palmer's (the lot beyond the green wrought iron fence, accessible from North St.).
A reminder that there is coffee and tea for sale in the Fellowship Hall from the Presbyterian Coffee Project. Through the project, farmers earn a fair price for their coffee, have access to affordable credit, and invest in their communities. The cost of the coffee is $6.00 and the tea is $4.00. There is an envelope at the coffee stand for your money.
You Are Invited to a Very Special Sunday...October 3, 2010
October 3 is World Communion Sunday, the day when Christians around the world celebrate their unity as members of the body of Christ. It is also the day we receive the Peacemaking Offering which goes to support the peacemaking ministries of this congregation and the PCUSA. And it is also the day when, traditionally, we have a simple bread & soup luncheon to remind ourselves that for many of our brothers and sisters in the body of Christ, such a meal would be a feast. But this year will be particularly special because, during the luncheon, we will have the formal unveiling of the portrait of Mary Bonner, commissioned by the Session and painted by local artist Benjamin McVey, that will hang in the narthex. Joining us in worship will be Ruben Armendariz, Mission Presbytery Staff Consultant for Church Development. |
