All Presbyterian churches are organized along the lines of a representative democracy. A group of ordained Elders (identified here at First by their name tags), elected from and by the congregation, set First Presbyterian’s policies, guided by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Book of Order and with guidance from the pastor. The pastor is called to serve by vote of the congregation, as opposed to being appointed to the congregation by an outside authority. Elders and the pastor together constitute the Session, the governing body of First Presbyterian Church. Clerk of Session: Bill Fly
The Diaconate Deacons first and foremost work with the pastor in providing pastoral care. They also have responsibility for providing leadership in evangelism and outreach (with particular attention to maintaining relationships with visitors and new member assimilation), hospitality (with particular attention to fellowship events and Sunday morning greeting), and faith-sharing (with particular attention to equipping the congregation to share their faith stories with people both within and outside the church).
